I just wanted to update my posting. I found absolute proof that Rebecca Massey Witherspoon is the daughter of Abraham Massey and Rachel Sherrill.
Lincoln Co., NC Court Records: April 1792 - Rebecca Massey and Benjamin Massey being of proper age came into open court and Rebecca choosed (sic) Enos Sherrill and Benjamin choosed Joseph Sherrill. 100 pounds each. Abraham Massey being under age the court choose the above Enos and Joseph as his guardians.
Enos and Joseph Sherrill were brothers to Rachel Massey, widow of Abraham.
Abraham died in 1787 leaving three minor heirs, Rebecca, Benjamin, and Abraham, Jr. Enos Sherrill the brother of Rachel became Rebecca's legal guardian.
Rebecca married Alexander Witherspoon and they lived in Wilson County, TN where Alexander died in Jul 1826. Benjamin, her brother, died in Wilson County, TN in 1814.
In 1850, Rebecca was living with her daughter and son-in-law, Abner Shannon and Thurza Emeline Witherspoon McKnight in Cannon County, TN. She died between 1850 and 1860.
