Hi!
Am still working on my James Massey.
We've never had him associated with a brother(s) when he came to Alabama. We do feel he came to Alabama in 1827-27 with his in-laws, the Abraham Nations (church and census records) and maybe to meet with old friends, the Anson and William Smithsons, and possibly with the Pascal Shackelfords (also marriage connections). We do know he lived in the Elyton area, southside of Red Mountain, known as the Rosedale community now at the foot of the statue of Vulcan.Wish he was associated with a brother and with the Masseys on the eastern end of town.
James claims birth in Maryland, his wife was born in N.C..Don't know if they married in N. or S. Carolina, but children were being born in S., and he owned land there, 4 parcels, sold just before he appeared in Alabama.
If I consider the brother thing, I would say they could possibly be James's sons. One lived in the Birmingham area, maybe near the airport, maybe near Mountain Brook - David M.One moved to the Bessemer area, James P. probably on land given or bought from his father-in-law, Anson Smithson.Son John T. probably lived in the Lakeshore Drive-Greensprings area not far from Samford University.
Am looking today for a descendant of John T. Massey who I thought used the email name Two Trees. If you know, please advise.
