Hi!
Not sure if we've "spoken" before, but I am a descendant of James Massey and Mary Nations Massey. In fact, I an descended through not 1, but 2 of their sons, James P. and Joshua.
I know their brother was John T.Recently I was sent to a grave identified as John's located just south of Birmingham.
You mentioned the earliest Massey settlers in Jeff. Co., Al.As far as I know, there were four settling families;Jonathan & Lauriette, Samuel in the eastern part of the county nearest St. Clair County, my James and Mary, and one more.To this day, no one has shared with me a connection between these families.
As for the Maynard business, I believe it has come to be accepted that James was the James Maynard from Maryland, but I believe any definite proof still eludes us.Would love to know about that myself.
Please check into the John T. business.I once saw a Captain or Colonel John T. Massey associated with Samuel's line.I've always wondered if this was a connection between the two families or not.
Would love to know more (of course!),
Cindy Rushing
