Cockerham/Cochran - Massey family connections
I have been involved in a DNA project for the Cockerham Family, which has resulted in a match to a Massey family. To be honest I have no clue since I'm at a brick wall with my William Cockram.I will give you all the info I have on him and his migration, which is somewhat speculative.
William b. 1769 in NC, died in 1841 in Buncombe Co., NC.It is believed he may have been a son of Moses V. Cockerham, Sr. of Surry Co., NC. He married Elizabeth "Betsy" Stuart/Stewart, who is believed to be the daughter of Nathaniel Stewart who also lived in Surry Co., NC.
It is believed that William may have gone to Greenville, SC with or about the same time the Stewarts were there.William shows up in Buncombe around 1810, along with one of the Stewarts who I believe came a year or so earlier and another one who showed up a little later.I also know that at least one of William's children lived in GA., but not sure if William was ever there or if he had any other of his family.
Any information, thoughts or ideas is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
