A DNA Y-test participant must be a male Mason. The Y chromosome is passed down from father to son only. Your son would give you the connection to his father's line, not to Masons.
I had no trouble using the link I posted to get to the Mason DNA results--but try pasting it into your browser. Or use Google--"Mason DNA project."
This family of Masons (first 8 in the E1b1 group on DNA chart) is the largest set of matches in the project--but I cannot connect (on paper) most of them. It's obvious they were in VA early and that they began to scatter from the northern VA area before the Revolution. Some went to southwest VA before the Rev. and by 1780s-1790s had moved on to SC, TN, GA, and KY (and maybe NC--who knows?). They were also prolific--six or seven sons in almost every line and generation! But though we are now up to eight men who match, I can only connect three of them to John Mason (1722-1786) of Stafford VA. I think some of the matches are descendants of Gilbert, Martin and William Mason who moved to Bedford, Botetourt and Greenbrier before the Revolution, but need more matching DNA samples to support that.
Several of the lines (Pendleton district SC, Botetourt VA, Stafford VA) used the name Daniel, so it's certainly worth it to look at those lines if your Daniel was from the South.
