Need DNA participants! Stafford Co. VA and beyond...

DNA has indicated that my mystery James Mason ("of Stafford County" VA in 1769, then to Culpeper) is part of a rather extensive family group. The problem is, despite seven matching Mason men, most traceable to VA in the 1700s, we cannot connect five of the seven to any of the others. There are two proven descendants of John Mason of Stafford, b. ca 1722, but no idea how the other five connect to them or to each other. We need more data!

If you are or know a Mason male with roots in Oconee or Pickens SC, please consider doing the test. Some of the Masons in those counties begin with Richard Mason of Stafford Co. VA--if we could get a match with one of them it might help fill in some gaps. There is also a Daniel Mason b. ca. 1725 who lived in Stafford and had a number of sons--though I can't prove any of them. Yelverton in Nelson Co. KY is probably one--but he had no sons. There is a Daniel Jr. in Stafford through 1830--no idea what happened to his sons. The Ewell Mason in Albemarle VA may also be a son of Daniel. Sr.

Also need a male Mason descended from Joseph Mason of Breckinridge KY, Martin Mason of Bedford/ Botetourt VA., and Gilbert Mason of Bedford CO. VA. We have matches to men who appear to be descendants or related to these three men, but DNA would give us the truth of that "appearance." It would be even more helpful if you can prove on paper your connection to Joseph, Martin or Gilbert.

We also need a male Mason descendant of the George of Aquia line (son Benjamin to Loudoun Co. VA--others to KY and Edgefield SC)of Stafford/Prince William. I'm not sure there are any--but sure would like to hear about possibilities!

DNA opens up whole new worlds in genealogy. For more info see results page at http://www.ncroots.com/DNA-Mason-Worldwide/ Check the home page for who can participate (any male named Mason!) and how to participate.
