Hello, Thanks so much for responding to my Mason queries. No, I'm not doing military history. That would be just as disastrous as any attempt I might make to do genealogy. Last year one of the archivists at the State Library showed me the Stafford County militia records. These span the years 1781-1856 and are nearly complete for this period. They contain about 1,500 names. I've abstracted the names of all the men and am now trying to do brief biographical footnotes for as many of them as possible. I know nothing about military history and dread even trying to compose some type of introduction to go with this thing. The primary value of the records is in the quantity of names provided and the years the men were listed. There is a little genealogical information that appears in the form of margin notations and I've copied all that. There are also some great notations made by the sheriffs who tried to locate the men who failed to appear for the required summer monthly musters. There are two questions you might be able to clarify--who did Daniel Mason marry (I think you indicated she was a Nelson?) and do you have birth/death years for William Mason the Baptist minister? When I posted the Genforum queries, I only gave the first year a man was listed. I'm on my way to a funeral just now, but when I return I'll give you the range of years for each of the Masons. That might be of some use. Thanks again! Jerrilynn Notify Administrator about this message?
