Now you're writing military history? I was just discussing the iron industry in the area with someone this morning! Some of these Mason men are son and grandsons of John Mason and Mary Nelson of Stafford, John born ca. 1722, d. ca 1797. William (though perhaps not this one?) and Lewis were their sons--see Overwharton records. Bartlett was Lewis' son. Other sons: Enoch esq. Joel, and Henry (who was a milita capt. during the Rev) and John Jr. who moved to Culpeper. As for the rest--my best guess is that Yelverton (on tax records--moved to KY) was the son of Daniel Nason/Elizabeth Nelson who married in Stafford 30 Jan 1753. Daniel (d. after 1810) had a lot of sons indicated in tax records, but I've only been able to guess at some of their names from the younger Masons who showed up on tax records in the 1790s. There is a Daniel Mason junior in tax records for Stafford (first appears 1800), and a Daniel, age 26-45 shows up in the 1810 census for Stafford as well as 1820. Know nothing about the John Mason you list but he was probably related somehow. William Mason (moved to Culpeper, Baptist minister) had a son John who was old enough to serve in 1814. I also think that Daniel and John Mason Sr. were brothers. They married sisters, and at some point John Sr. moved from his 100 acres south of Aquia Creek (next to the Hope Patent) to the juncture of Cannon Run and Aquia Creek--an area where Daniel acquired a lifetime lease starting about 1756 (can't find that record just now--but that's about right). In the 1750-1800 period, they were the only Masons I've been able to find records on in Stafford. Keep me posted on anything else you find on these Mason men--I'm still trying to solve all the Mason puzzles in Stafford and Culpeper! Karen Dale Notify Administrator about this message?
