I am trying to prove that Dorcas Mason was the woman named Dorcas that was married to James Gardiner, Jr. of Rhode Island.
According to the North Carolina Marriage Collection she married James Gardiner, Jr. on 9 Feb 1765 in Hyde County, North Carolina. The Vital Records of RI by James Arnold list James and Dorcas (Mason) Gardiner as the parents of Joseph Gardiner born 26 Sept 1768 in Vol 1 Page 11 of the Newport, RI records.
The vital records of children born to this couple list the father as James or Joseph (the names of these men were probably written as Jas or Jos which look the same to many transcribers)
