Hi Ernest,
I'm relieved to hear that I was wrong in my assumption.
The 1841 census showing your John suggests his year of birth was 1797, hence my concern.
I have checked the death entries, and found no sign of a Robert born in that year dying after 1881, the one we are assuming is yours also does not show up on a census after then either, so this all looks very positive.
I don't have access to immigration or passenger lists, but this would be the best way to check if he did move across the water.
Best Wishes,
Vickey
