looking for Baxter Mashburn's father, NC bef. 1822

I am looking for the Mashburn family line that leads to Baxter Mashburn. I have most of the family line from there if anyone wants to share.
He was born abt 1822 in NC. Died in 1862 as a Confederate Soldier in VA.

I have Baxter living with Sarah Mashburn in the 1850 McDowell, NC census. She is 26yrs older (born around 1800), possibly his mother (less-likely and aunt). Sarah is still living with him on the 1860 census along with Baxter's wife and some of his children (one named Sarah).

On the 1850 and 1860 McDowell, NC census, Cha (Charles) is his neighbor and possibly his brother. Charles also named one of his sons Baxter in abt 1850.

I think Baxter & Cha may have a sister, but do not know her name. This could just be along shot.

I think Baxter's father died before 1830, and most certainly before 1840. I have no idea who he might be or where he might have come from. (I have a vague guess around Wake Co, NC)
I can only assume that he is a descendant of Edward, the teacher, but cannot make a sure connection.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
