Candice,

I am hoping that you may be able to help me, and if so, you will have broken a Big Hole in my Brick Wall.

I have John W. NASH (MASH), born 1800 - 1815, we believe in Kentucky, but, very well could have been NC. My John W., was possibly related to a WRIGHT, WILSON, and a CLAIBORN NASH (MASH), also from Surry County, NC.

My NASH (MASH) families have been traced from North Carolina, Kentucky, Indiana, and into Clay/Richland, Menard, and Montgomery Counties, in Illinois. From there, they seemed to split. One line (David Preston Elijah Nash, son of William Nash(Mash), moved into Carroll County, Arkansas, another (Wright Nash, son of William Nash (Mash), into Perry County, Oklahoma, and my John W. Nash into Shannon County, Missouri. From Shannon County, John's children seemed to settle in Iron and St. Francois Counties in Missouri.

My John W. "Jackson or Jack" Nash, was born between 1800/1815, in either NC or KY (We have always been told KY). He married HANNAH (maiden name unknown, and we are told that Hannah was full blooded Indian, though I have never been able to prove this fact). John and Hannah had the following children:

Jeremiah "Jerry" Nash born 1834 Illinois
Daniel Nash born 1838 Illinois
Henry Nash born 1845 Missouri
Thomas "Tom" Nash born 1846 Shannon County, Missouri
Amanda "Mandy" Nash born 1846 Shannon County, Missouri
Martha Nash born 1849 Shannon County, Missouri
Johnson "Jonce" Nash born 1852 Shannon County, Missouri
John Wesley Nash born 1854 Shannon County, Missouri
Clinton Nash born 1856 Shannon County, Missouri
William "Riley" Nash born 1856 Shannon County, Missouri
Marvin "Lee" Nash born 1861 Shannon County, Missouri

Amanda "Mandy" Nash,(listed above) is my Great Grandmother. She married Claiborne NASH (MASH), my Great Grandfather, on March 11, 1870, in Richland County, Illinois. They settled in St. Francois County, Missouri, and are the parents of 5 children. YES, I believe that Amanda and Claiborne, may have been first cousins, before their marriage in 1870. I also believe that my Great Grandfather, Claiborne Nash, was named after the elder Claiborne Nash (Mash) listed above.

Claiborne Nash(Mash), is the son of "Unknown" Nash (Mash) and Louvina or Vivian (I have seen her listed as both, and her maiden name is unknown). Louvina was born 1809, in Kentucky. I have thought until just recently that Claiborne's father, was named WILLIAM NASH, but due to new information, I now believe that his name was not William after all. Claiborne had the following siblings:

Henry Nash born 1827 Indiana
Elizabeth "Betsy or Eliza" Nash born 1832 Illinois
Claiborne (Cayborn) Nash born 1835 Illinois
James Nash born 1837 Illinois
Mary Nash born 1838 - 1840 Illinois

Claiborne's mother, Louvina or Vivian Nash (as it is listed on the marriage licenses in 1847) married again on July 17, 1847, in Richland County, Illinois, to a Richard M. Pierce. Therefore, I believe that her first husband, "Unknown" Nash, must have died, between 1838 and 1847. She had three children by her 2nd husband, Richard Pierce, after her marriage to him.

If any of these names are familiar to you at all, please contact me. My email address is: ograndma@charter.net
