Hello, I hope this will be of some help. I came accross Paul Mascarene's name while reading a text called "A Few Acres of Snow, Documents in Pre-Confederation Canadian History". Upon further research I came accross a web site which you may be interested in. In brief, it sounds like He was a French Heugonaut, Protestant, rather than Catholic. He left France, and after time in Swizterland, ended up in the British Army, and headed for the Invasion of what was then New France (Acadia), now Nova Scotia Canada. He served his time in that area as a Captain within the British Army. There appear to be a great deal of documents written by M. Mascarene, as he wass undoubtably used in translating French and English Texts due to his capacity in both languages. I have attatched a URL. for your interests.
