Emery Marvel [2/12/1826--10/29/1903] m Miranda Hubbard [ca 1837/38--12/6/1881].
Emery Marvel was born at Williamsville, near Milford, Kent Co, Delaware, in 1826 and never lived outside the county of his birth. The area had long been home to various Marvels, and a country crossing on the Milford-Harrington road near his birthplace is still known as Marvels Crossroad. He and his wife, Miranda (Hubbard) Marvel, had 13 children over 21 years. Miranda died when the last was quite young. A number of his children moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey, probably following the lead of Philip Marvel who moved there to practice surgical medicine in the mid 1880s. Emery and Miranda are buried in Dover, Delaware at Queen and North Streets. One transcription of her tombstone says she lived 11/10/1813--12/06/1881, but the birth date is in error and so must have become unreadable over time.

1860 census: Milford, Milford Hundred (33 & 22) spelled "Marvil"
1870 census: Kenton, Little Creek Hundred (43 & 33)
1880 census: East Dover Hundred (52 & 41 looks like "Margreta")
1900 census - not yet found
Some info is from a biographical sketch of Philip Marvel, connected with the Atlantic City NJ hospital, which appeared in Scannell's New Jersey's First Citizens and State Guide, (1923), pages 306-307.
Looking for ancestral connections, have wondered about possible connection to one Philip.
In 1820, one Nutter Marvell's household in Mispillion Hundred included (among others) three boys born 1804-1820 range. Nutter was listed in the bracket for birth date between 1775--1794.
In 1830 "Philip Marvill" [1790--1800 bracket]headed a household including three boys born between 1815 and 1830. The next entry is for Nutter Marvill [1780--1790 bracket] and nearby Adam Marvill [1780--1790 bracket]. Some years ago someone posted to GenForum that this Adam dwelled and kept a tavern at Marvels Crossroads on the Harrington-Milford RD.
In 1840, listed in Milford Hundred, Kent Co, DE, page 124 is Philip Marvel. The census shows a man and a woman in their 40s, so born in the 1790--1800 range. There were three boys and five girls in the household born in the 1820s and 1830s. In the same hundred lived Adam Marvel [1780--1790 bracket]and Nutter Marvel [1780--1790 bracket].
In 1850, "Emmery Marvell" was in general area of one "Phillip Marvell".

Adam (65) and Jane (49) Marvill were listed in Milford and Mispillion Hundreds, Kent Co in 1850.
In 1860, Emery was a close neighbor of Philip Marvil, age 67, farmer, born Delaware. Philip's household included James H Marvil, 23.
Adam (77) and Jane (62) Marvill were listed in Milford Hundred, Kent Co in 1860.
By 1870, Philip apparently went to live in Kenton Post Office area, Little Creek Hundred, Kent Co, Delaware with the family of daughter Rebecca who married William Willis.
Can anyone make the connection? Or, if not, steer me in the right direction?
These are not my ancestors. I am doing this research to surprise a friend.
