Henry N. Martinez Obit

BLISSFIELD — Henry N. Martinez, 70, of Blissfield passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Toledo Hospital.

Henry was born on March 29, 1938, in Blissfield, the son of Ramon and Maria (Madrid) Martinez. He was married on Aug. 24, 1963, to Emilia (Emily) Ybarra. He graduated from Blissfield High School in 1958 and served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963. He was employed at Al’s Polishing in Toledo, and was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blissfield. Henry also was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Blissfield American Legion, and for many years was a baseball coach in the Blissfield Little League, Sandy Koufax and Stan Musial baseball leagues. He was later inducted into the Blissfield Little League Hall of Fame.

Surviving is his wife, Emily Martinez of Blissfield, and children, Linda Martinez-Faz, Henry (Tammie) Martinez Jr., Joseph D. Martinez, Vicente “Vinny” Martinez and Diana Dee (Todd) Jensen, all of Blissfield. Also surviving are brothers and sisters, Tony (Mary) Martinez of Adrian, Louisa Valdez of Erie, James (Maria) Martinez of Adrian, David Martinez of Adrian, Lydia (Phillip) Guzman of Blissfield and Rufus (Emily) Madrid of Sylvania; and seven grandchildren. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Carmen and Luz Martinez; and brothers Paul and Raymond Martinez, and Noe and Ernist Madrid.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church in Blissfield with Fr. Francis Mossholder officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Blissfield. Friends may call at the Tagsold Funeral Home in Blissfield from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
