BerthaMarie Martineau Black Rigg Canada to Ohio
This is a "shot in the dark" to hit a "needle in a haystack!"
My paternal grandmother, Zela Ellen Rigg Hetrick's mother, Bertha Marie Black Rigg has always been known to me by that name. There is a family story, however, which my great uncle told me with a hushed warning not to reveal wer had an "injun" in the tree:My grandmother was descended from a Jewish French fur trapper who married a Blackfoot woman, then crossed over from Canada through Sault Ste Marie, then, evidently eastward to Ohio. That's as far as the story goes, even though I have a picture (taken in Richland Co Ohio) of my Gt-Gt grandmother which shows some positive Native features.Suddenly, in the Rigg family history posted by Verna Hazelbaker, I find the name Bertha Marie Martineau Black m. Hiram Rigg (they would be my Gt grandparents). It is also possible my Gt-Gt-Gtrandma was a Bertha Marie (she in the photo).Since the other family members are of the Rigg persuasion, there isn't any more info re/ the Martineau name.
I'd be pleased as punch if any small part of this makes sense to some of you Martineaus out there.Could we be kin?
For any of your help, I say, "Merci very much!"
