Black Sheep Martineau from Michigan
As we are cozy for the winter in front of our computers, thought I would share a good story with my Martineau cousins. I have a "black sheep" Martineau in my family. My great grandfather was Melford Martineau, son of Charles, Annaclet, Jerome, Jean Baptist, Jean Baptist, Pierre, Louis and Jean Martineau from France and Quebec.Well, this great grandfather of mine disappeared from Grand Rapids, MI in 1902.He left behind my great grandmother and two baby children. My family has always assumed that he died.Just this past year, I was able to make contact with a cousin,Sylvia Kane in Ohio. She is the grandchild of Charlotte Martineau, Melfords sister. It seems that Melford left Grand Rapids, went to Wisconsin then on to Ohio.He married again (without divorcing my great grandmother) and had another family. So the good part is that I have talked with an entire new family that we didn't know existed. I am glad that my grandmother passed before finding out what really happened to her father. What a shock after all these years.I guess all the Martineau's wern't honest upstanding citizens.
