Austin,I am more convinced that ever now that I have done even more research. The family always said that John Martino was born in NY, and, of course, birthplaces given in censuses were not always accurate or consistent for a given person. In checking the 1790 Federal Census for NY, I find several MARTINNO families, all of them on Staten Island (Richmond Co.).Among them are Stephen Martinno, Cornelius Martinno, and John Martinno.Living nearby was Peter Haughwout, who married Mary Martineau or
Martino, as well as James Guyon, who married Susannah Martineau (James was a U. S. Rep. in 1820-21 and is buried in St. Andrews Cem. on Staten Island).Peter Guyon married Sarah Martino/Martineau.I have seen Cornelius, Abraham, John, Stephen as Martineau, Martino, and Martino . . .and even Martine. But the only place that I see it is Richmond Co. (Staten Island), NY.And, a Sidney Martino died in Pickaway Co., OH, in 1808 at age 26, making him born abt 1782.My ancestor, John Martino, was born in 1785 and was an early settler of Pickaway Co., Ohio.Do you know anything about Sidney Martino or Martineau or a William Martino/Martineau?
