GI-Martines in AU-WW2

Hi All,
A very long shot, so here goes. Our Martine family in Victoria AU received a visit by two GI cousins during WW2, stating they were family. Our Martine family known history to date mainly around Gorbals in Glasgow, Scotland circa 1760-1803. Unable to search GI records as a fire has destroyed them, ring any bells with anyone on the forum, esp with GI connections.
Regards
Kathy Rendalls (nee Martin-Martine)
