William Martindale - Moore Co., NC - Early 1800s
Posted by: Denise Spurlock (ID *****1214) Date: January 14, 2003 at 04:59:36
  of 1343

I am trying to find information about the family of William Martindale who was enumerated on the federal census in Moore Co., NC, in 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850 and 1860. I have seen on some message boards that he was married to Juda/Judith Manus/Maness; however, there is a Judah Manus enumerated separately from William Martindale in the 1830 census.

A summary of the census information:
1820 - 1 male 45+, 2 males 10-15, 1 male under 10, 1 female 45+, 3 females under 10
1830 - 1 male 30-39, 1 male 20-29, 1 male 10-14, 1 female 30-39, 1 female 10-14, 1 female 5-9, 1 female under 5
1840 - 1 male 50-59, 1 male 5-9, 1 male under 5, 1 female 50-59, 1 female 20-29, 1 female 10-14, 1 female 5-9
1850 - William Martindale (70, born NC), Juda (53, NC), Ann M. (17, NC),, Mary (13, NC), Thomas Morris (13, NC), Henry Manis (19, NC)
1860 - William (79), Juda (65)

William does not appear on the Moore Co., census, after 1860. Judah appears on the 1880 census with son Azel Martindale.

I am trying to find the parents of my 2 great grandfather, Howell Brewer Martindale, b. about 1814, in Moore Co., NC, married Mary Elizabeth Eaton Aug 1838 in Washington Co., MO.

Any help would be appreciated.
