Charles W. Martin
SPRINGFIELD - Charles W. Martin, 92, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Lewis Memorial Christian Village.
Charles was born in Murrayville, IL on October 3, 1918, to Charles E. and Alma Martin. He married Mary M. Range in 1942 at the First Baptist Church in Greenfield, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his wife, daughter JoAnn, parents and one sister Alice.
Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Air Force for almost 5 years during World War II, much of which was in the Pacific Area. He was in the banking business for about 30 years. He was one of the organizers of Franklin Bank, Franklin, Illinois and spent most of his banking years as an executive officer there.
He is survived by three sisters, Pauline Harris of Hayes, Virginia, Audrey Kemp and Marilyn (husband Bill) Israel, both of Springfield; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Services are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, 505 E. Allen, Springfield. Graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at 2 pm at Oakwood Cemetery in Greenfield, IL., where burial will follow.
