Thank for your input, very interesting about the "fostering".When we first began dna research we were involved with the McDowell Family DNA testing.Our DNA does not match any McDowells (but then it doesn't match Dowells either because it is a perfect Martin match).The Joseph Martin family who we match lived adjacent to the Large Dowell family on Prittie's Creek Albermarle VA.The Martins and the Dowells appear on documents, deeds, witness as wills, etc thruout the period 1740-1800s.Because of so many similar names, etc, I am inclined to think that is the Dowell family that raised or was related to our Dowells....I have no idea why they were reared as Dowells and don't think we will ever solve that puzzle.I will research the Enlish connection you have listed and thank you again for trying to help us.
