Ruth....Since I am not sure exactly what you are looking for on this MARTIN family, you may already have what I am sending, but will send it anyway in case you don't have this info. Also sending a bit of SEWELL info.

This APPEARS to be the Martin couple on the 1880 census, because of their son William, but see the other 1880 census record below, as there were 2 Newton Martin's in Madison County, TN. This is from www.familysearch.org. I looked at the actual census image and the enumeration date was June 25:

Household:

Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace

Newton MARTIN Self M Male W 24 AL Farmer GA AL

Bettie MARTIN Wife M Female W 27 TN Keeping House --- NC

William MARTIN Son S Male W 3M TN AL TN (My note: Actual census image says William was born in Feb 1880)

The very next household:

Newton MARTIN Self M Male W 24 MS Farmer --- ---

(My note: Wondering "if" Newton and Elizabeth/Bettie might have moved during the taking of the 1880 census and were enumerated twice. I have seen that happen before with my family. Also, wondering "if" William L. Martin's middle name was Levi. The actual census image gives the enumeration date as June 22)
