GEORGE MARTIN'S birth found in Essex Parish Records?
For years we have searched for a credible record of the birth of George Martin of Amesbury, Mass., supposedly about 1618.We urge interested Martin researchers to investigate the following parish record my husband ordered from LDS:#0853320.Title of record:Parish Register Printouts of Copford, Essex, England, Christenings 1558-1813."Christening of George Marten, 24 February1621, son of John, in Copford, Essex County."
Note:Copford is a suburb of Colchester, not far from Knoddishall (or Coggeshall), where Samuel Winsley served in the Militia, acc. to Charles E. Banks, in his "Topographical Dict." Major Robert Pike deposed that George came as a servant to Winsley. The original name for Salisbury, Mass. was Colchester, (Mass.) Winsley's original Knoddishall Militia service is hard to find, but it exists.Banks didn't make it up.I found it several years ago, but can't find the reference.
