The VRs of Warren, as I had mentioned, have the Patience/"Samuel" marriage. The Federal Census of 1850 and 1860 show Stephen, Jr., aged 29, a "trader" and Patience in Warren, RI.And, in the Federal Census of 1860, their daughter, Jennie, is listed with them - along with the several other children.Stephen, Sr., a "merchant" and wife Ruth are also listed in the 1850 Census (both aged 72) in Warren. They also have living with them a female,Mary Fox (most likely a servant), born in Ireland. As a caveat, if you are looking at an Ancestry transcription of the 1850 census, you will see Stephen's age listed as "20" and Patience's name really garbled as "Latience" and Frank's (the first child) name as "Franket". If you look at the ACTUAL page, you will see that the transcriber made quite a few errors!
The lines of descent can be put together by following entries in the Swansea VRs, as transcribed by Rounds and in Bristol Abstracts, also transcribed by him, in addition to the Rehoboth VRs from the James N. Arnold series on RI VRs.
There is also a book: "Notices: Genealogical and Historical of the Martin Family, of New England, Who Settled at Weymouth and Hingham In 1635"
By Henry J. Martin
Published by Quintin Publications, 1880
which is mostly correct. This book is available at NEHGS, and probably at several NE genealogical libraries.
Also, regarding the Martin Family, I have many old papers wherein the lineages are given. You can see some of them transcribed, and also a well-researched and documentedMartin family tree at the following website:
http://www.angelfire.com/home/hammartin/http://www.angelfire.com/home/hammartin/
Here you will also find a copy of the baptismal certificate of John Martin with confirmation of his parents. (His father was Edward, and not Richard as stated by many genealogies.)
My Martins were living in Barrington, RI (where I, too, was born) which is the next town to Warren.
Let me know if I can be of further help.
