this site here claims that Marti/Marty is a diminutive (German) form of Martin. well. I have to admit, saying that Marti and Martin may be the same name (originally) probably sounds a bit commonsensical because they sound alike, and this certainly isn't proof enough (quite thr contrary, actually), but loss of /n/ seems pretty common in german(ic), the y in Marty may be explained as a variant spelling of i (very usual in middle high german, it seems to me).
