My great grandfather was Jurgen Martens Scott county Ia. (I thought his middle name was Wilhelm)?
My grandfather was John William Martens/ Annie Ehlers Scott county Ia. Elk Grove. LeClair, Durant Ia. Died in the early 70s( Farmer)
Their children: Oldest first.

Grace Martens/Bill Jenson died Madison Wisconsin
My Father Herbert William Martens Scott County Ia. LeClair, Eldridge, Walcott, died: Ft.Collins Colorado. 1915 to 2007 (married three times)
Carl Martens/ wife both still with us in Davenport Area
Norman Martens/ Valeria (rungee)sic still with us in Davenport
Wilma Martens/Elmer Kroning (sic) Died. Durant, Davenport, Northern Ia. Ft.Collins
John Martens/ Sylvia -John- Died Mtn View California.

I am Byron (Butch) William Martens first born son of Herbert William Martens (Johns'/Annies' oldest son)
born July 1947 Mercy Hospital Davenport Ia.
I live in Milpitas, Ca. (San Jose)6i years old. We left Iowa in 1959 and moved to Ft.Collins Colorado (my mother Hazel Viney Martens hometown) Then VietNam, Then California for me.
My sister Cheryl Martens is in california
My Brother Dwight (Pete) Martens (reno)
My baby brother Brian Martens Windsor Co.
My only son is Chad William Martens. Born in 1988.

I have vague memories of (great) uncle Hans, Dad said Uncle Hans sold plumbing supplies in the Davenport Area. Jurgen died before my birth I believe, I have no memory of him..
I had an aunt Alvine sic and uncle Earnest in Davenport Ia. (died when I was young)
There were huge Martens Family Reunion picnics 150-200 people every summer at various parks including the park in Rock Island Illinois- Black Hawk Park-
We have a picture of my Grandfather Johns uncle in Germany as a Prussian military officer for Kaiser Wilhelm..
Other surnames from 50 years back. Ehlers, Snickclodt, Schmidt, Rungee, Knutsen sics?

When my dad lived in LeClair Iowa for a few years as a boy, They lived in a sod house next to the farm where Buffalo Bill Cody was born. The sod house (the only one remaining in Ia.) is now a museum. Dad said there was a community well(water) there that used dogs” in harness” to pump the water.

Dad said that Jurgen was one of nine boys-with no girl siblings?
