The first ancestor is shown as Martin Hansen (c1439); his son was Joachim Martensen, also spelled Martinsen. The descendants after that used Martens. This information was gathered in 1971 by my cousin, James Mason Martens,from the Martens Stammtafel file in the Staatsarchiv in Hamburg. He also received some information from Gerhard Martens from Cambridge, Mass.
