I am seeking information on the wife of JAMES AMES (1741-1827) of New Hampshire. The death record of his son JACOB AMES (Mass. VR 1841-1910, 84:149) notes his mother's name as COMFORT. Hamilton Child, Gazetteer of Grafton County, N.H, 1709-1886 (Syracuse, NY, 1886), 125, notes her family name as Masten, which almost certainly is Marston. This last source also notes that James and Comfort had eight children, including a son named Caleb. The name Caleb was born by a number of males in the Marston families of New Hampshire. One Caleb Marston had a daughter Comfort who reportedly married Samuel Pease from Maine. Are there two contemporaneous Comfort Marstons in New Hampshire? Can anyone shed light on this problem?
