what you say about Matavia and Matauia is true. It depends on which dialect you have been brought up with. You might be interested in a site I have set up with some information about William and his Palmerston family. It is on http://www.williamrmarsters.com. Have a look, I hope you find it interesting. I will add a blog about the differences in the way that this name was pronounced.
