A long time resident and businessman of Marlette has passed away at the age of 90. Jack

Marsh passed away Monday, June 1, 2009 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center.

He was born on the family farm on Marsh Road in Burnside Twp., Lapeer, County, son to the

late Robert and Lena (Kohler) Marsh on September 21, 1918.

Along with his identical twin brother, George, the pair owned and operated Marsh Funeral

Home for years, having celebrated 50 years in businesses.

Jack Marsh started Mortuary School in 1941, receiving his license from the Mortuary School of

Science at Wayne State University in 1942. The marsh brothers had worked for the Heeney

Funeral Home upon high school graduation in 1938 and, together, they later bought the Heeney

Funeral Parlor in 1946.

They worked out ot the Heeney Funeral Home, which was located at 6477 Morris Street in

Marlette for 20 years. They also blew emergency whistles, answered the fire calls and ran

ambulances. They also acquired the Marlette Insurance Agency from Mr. Heeney at the samet

time.

The current Marsh Funeral Chapel was buit in 1966. Jack's son, Randy, and George's

son-in-law, Larry Levielle, joined the business and eventually bought out the twins in 1984.

Jack and George Marsh said that by the time they retired they had buried more people than the

population of the City of Marlette.

On June 30, 1945, Jack Marsh married Thelma Keys in Marlette.

He was a long time member of the Bethel Church of C.M.A.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma, of 64 years; daughters, Linda and Rick Miller of Frankfort,

IN, Jackie and Brad Hess of Sylvania, OH, Connie and Edward Freund of Colorado Springs,

CO and Debra and Thomas Kapchinske of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Randy J. Marsh of

Marlette; brother, George and Helen Marsh also of Marlette; nine grandchildren, Dion Miller,

Terri Adams, Erica Deam, Jamie Miller, Marci Walton, Chris Hess, Natalie Kapchinske, Mike

Hess and Alison Kapchinske; two great-grandchildren, Adison and Molly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carljoe, Frank, Harry and Paul and sisters,

Florence and Helen.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marlette Baptist

Church, with Pastor Fred Becknell, Pastor Steven Kellet and Pastor Eric Kilmer officiating.

Jack W. Marsh, 90, long time resident of Marlette passed away peacefully Monday, June 1,

2009 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center.

He was born September 21, 1918 on the family farm on Marsh Road in Burnside Twp., Lapeer,

Co., son to the late Robert and Lena (Kohler) Marsh.

He graduated from Marlette High School in 1938 and then went on to the Mortuary School of

Science at Wayne State University where he received his Mortuary License.

He married Thelma Keys June 30, 1945 in Marlette.

Mr. Marsh and his twin brother George own and operated the Marsh Funeral Chapel in

Marlette from 1945 until their retirement in 1984. They were also responsible for receiving

emergency fire calls and notification of local firemen. The brothers also owned and operated the

Marlette Insurance Agency for many years and provided ambulance service for the community

of Marlette.

He was a long time member of the Bethel Church of C.M.A.

He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, Lawrence Welk Show, mowing his lawn, talking to

people and, most of all, his family.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma of 64 years; daughters, Linda and Rick Miller of Frankfort,

IN, Jackie and Brad Hess of Sylvania, OH, Connie and Edward Freund of Colorado Springs,

CO and Debra and Thomas Kapchinske of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Randy J. Marsh of

Marlette; brother, George and Helen Marsh also of Marlette; nine grandchildren, Dion Miller,

Terri Adams, Erica Deam, Jamie Miller, Marci Walton, Chris Hess, Natalie Kapchinske, Mike

Hess and Alison Kapchinske; two great-grandchildren, Adison and Molly.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, June 5, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Marlette Baptist

Burial will be in the Marlette Cemetery in Marlette.

Memorials may be donated to Bethel Church C.M.A. or The Gideon’s International.
