the marsdens of Penistone-Barnsley-Wakefield-Bolton on Dearne
Has anyone got any information relating to a william marsden, married Frances (aka Ann) in the second half of the 17th century. Was a well to do lawyer in Barnsley, lived in the Manor HOuse near St Marys church, also lived in Brierly Manor, New Hall (Darfield) and Burntwood Lodge. His descendents were also lawyers in the Barnsley - Wakefield area. They purchased the lordship of the manor of Boltonon Dearne with Goldthorpe in the mid 1700's and subsequently benefitted from the enclosure act in Bolton. A son of the William Marsden born circa 1720, was a Captain Francis Marsden who was fatally wounded at the Battle of Bunker Hill in the American War Of Independence in 1776 and died of his wounds in 1780 at Burntwood Lodge.
Any information about this family would be appreciated. My mother was a descendent of this family
