Horatio N. Marsden was mustered out of the military in August 1865 because his three year term had expired. His service in Merrill's Horse Cavalry probably was in 1862. The University of Missouri has two letters written by him in 1863 to Mr. Charles Woodruff of Montgomery County, Mo. They describe his military experiences. Two other letters, also from 1863, have been published in a book called "Bushwhackers and Broken Hearts" [Infinity, 2010].
