It appears that Joseph had 3 wives - the first was Hannah Marsden and they married in Manchester Cathedral in 1846. Mary Jane was one of their children.
Eliza Cook was the 2nd wife and she married him at Stayley, St Paul, Tameside in 1863. On 1861 census she appears at Newton, St Marys, aged 27 and born in Derbyshire.
The 3rd wife was a Sarah A, I haven't found her maiden name yet. Joseph's other children were Sarah, Betsey, Hannah, another Joseph, Ethel and Fred. I haven't yet fully sorted out which ones belonged to which mothers.
