Re: Rachel Marriott & Francis Browning

Some Browning researchers indicated that she could have been from the Maryland Marriotts, who I believe knew the Maryland Brownings. In 1710 they think Francis Browning may have been living adjacent some Merritts on Portobago Creek in Essex Co VA. I was unable to verify this myself, but it is certainly possible.

In 1725, Francis Browning sat on a Jury also in Essex Co VA in a case against a Thomas Merritt JR, who ties back to my early Essex Merritt family. Browning also did business with Charles Ferrel, who had sold land to Thomas Merritt SR, also of Essex. Ferrel also sold land on Portobago creek to Browning. This is as close to an actual Merritt connection that I could find. I have more notes - if interested please contact me directly.

It would be fun to find out who Rachel goes to, but somebody would have to spend a lot of time in the old order books and hope to get lucky. If I had to guess I say she either goes to the Maryland Marriotts, or the Essex Merritts. Take care.
