Edwin MARRIOTT was born on Hunger Hills farm, Sutton-in-Ashfield in 1861. His father died when he was 9, and his mother when he was 18. He had a brother, Harry, who died in an accident at an early age.
Emily was born in Mansfield Baptist Church in 1860 to Joseph PARKES and Sarah BURTON who came from Staffordshire. Emily's two brothers, William and George, were professional gardeners.
Edwin Marriott and Emily Parkes were married in Mansfield, England in 1881. Edwin specialized in livestock and managed a farm, owned by Mr. Turner, the Chief Executive officer of the Midland Railway.
Emily and Edwin had 9 children, but lost their youngest son, a twin, at birth.
Sons, Ted and Joe came to Pettapiece, Manitoba, Canada in 1905. George joined them in 1906 and their father, Edwin, and sister, Annie, came in 1907. Annie worked in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Emily and their 4 remaining children came to Canada from Littleover-near-Derby in 1908.
Edwin bought his homestead(Sunnyside) in the Wiwa Hills area of Saskatchewan, Canada. They hauled supplies from Morse, Sask. Their sons soon homesteaded in the Shamrock area near their parents.
Edwin and Emily would return to Pleasley near Mansfield, England around 1923 for about 4 years.
I've recently seen Edwin's daily text book where he recorded births, deaths, marriages, etc. It was given to him in 1880 and mentions many names and places.
I know Edwin and Emily both have family in England, possibly the Mansfield area, and would be happy to make contact with family members.
I look forward to your replies.
