The Vital records of Lincolnville, Maine, page 57 [which I'm sure is considered a 'Primary Source] reads as thus: "James Higging born in Georgetown May 26th 1777 Married Abigail daughter of Naler and Ruth Mariner born in Bath March 7th 1782. Philip Higgins Son of James and Abigail Higgins born March 1803 Ruth Higgins born June 1805." That is all that is listed. I am descended from Naler and Ruth Mariner, and my mother was born on the farm that Naler settled. It stayed in the family until the late 1960's when it was sold out of the family. I have lots of questions about some of the early info that we have accepted as fact, should other descendants of Naler and Ruth have answers. For years I pondered over the name 'Naler' [also spelled Nalor], as not fititng into the Mariner/Marriner family. One day, at the Lincolnville Historical Society, I stumbled upon a transfer of land to the early settlers to Naler Mariner, and before his name was written in Jonathan. So, he is the Jona. N. Mariner in Bath, [in what is now Maine] in the 1790 Census. May God richly bless. Isabel Morse Maresh. P.S. Naler and Ruth are buried in the Union [also known as Millertown] Cemetery in Lincolnville where my parents are buried. I have five generations of ancestors buried there. I am presently recopying the inscriptions in the cemetery for LHS to put online on their Website, hopefully sometime this month. I do not have death dates for James and Abigail Higgins, but they may show up in the cemeteries that I am copying.
