I had noticed that and it was one reason why I was doubting whether an actual marriage occurred.

However, after doing some more research, I found in the 1880 Census on Columbia Street in the town of Newport, Campbell County,Kentucky a listing for Albert with a wife who I am assuming is Ella D although she is listed as Della in the census.

This marriage of his is somewhat intriguing in that there is an article in the Dec 22, 1880 Cincinnati Daily Gazette titled "A Newport Sensation" that reports on the supposed elopement of a Charles Fearons and the wife of Albert Stewart, salesman for Strobridge and Company and living on Columbia Street -- this is definitely my Albert. So it looks like they did get married, although I have not been able to find an actually marriage record.

In an interview with Della's mother she states that she is the widow of George Gordon who was in the awning and tent business in Cincinnati and that her daughter was not eloping but visiting her sister Mrs. Lindsay down the river. I could find no other articles about this "elopement".

However, I am beginning to think that the Ella D. Gordon listed in the Campbell County marriage bond with a bondsman of Elizabeth Gordon is the same person as the Dephina/Delphine Gordon (father listed as George) that Albert married in June of 1881 in New York City. In doing research on George Gordon, I found his wife listed as Elizabeth, do not find a daughter by the name of Ella or Della but do find a daughter Delphina E. and a daughter Harriet who married a William Lindsay. This Delphina E. is buried in the Gordon family plot in Cincinnati -- on her death certificate she is listed as Della and on the burial record at the cemetery she is listed as Delphina E. McCulla. Sometime before 1889, Albert Stewart must have divorced her as he then married a Florence Coe.

What I cannot figure out now is: did Albert and Della (Ella D.) get a divorce after 1880 but then get married again in 1881 in New York? Did they never get married in Campbell County and were just living as husband and wife and decided to make it legal in New York?

The more I find out about Albert Stewart the more I want to know -- and I am not even related to him!! He used to live in the town where I now live and I started to do research on him when I was working on a program for the library on the Titanic. Come to find out, he lost his life on the Titanic.

Thanks for the info.
