I found James Meltons WWI draft registration and he listed a Parmelia as his nearest relative. Registration date was 6/5/1918. I am sending that to you by e-mail. I believe this is the same man. Name: James Melton Age in 1910: 13 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1897 Birthplace: Alabama Relation to Head of House: Son Father's Name: D T Father's Birth Place: Alabama Mother's Name: Josephine Mother's Birth Place: Alabama Home in 1910: Jones Mill, Monroe, Alabama Marital Status: Single Race: White Gender: Male Household Members: Name Age D T Melton 67 Josephine Melton 59 Cola Melton 15 James Melton 13 Lannie Melton 9 Possibly the same person. Social Security Death Index Name: James Melton SSN: 705-09-0563 Last Residence: 36801 Opelika, Lee, Alabama, United States of America Born: 2 Jan 1897 Last Benefit: 36801 Opelika, Lee, Alabama, United States of America Died: Mar 1979 State (Year) SSN issued: Railroad Board (Issued Through) (Before 1951 ) If he worked for the railroad he might have been sent elsewhere which caused the breakup. They might never have been married at all. Why don't you try to get a marriage record from the county clerks office? With the names and approximate date of marriage they should be able to find it. You could also write to Lee County for an obituary but I don't know if that would help much. If it tells when he remarried it might help. Also try one of the lookups at RAOGK: http://www.raogk.com/alabama.htm Notify Administrator about this message?
