I found James Meltons WWI draft registration and he listed a Parmelia as his nearest relative.
Registration date was 6/5/1918. I am sending that to you by e-mail.
I believe this is the same man.

If he worked for the railroad he might have been sent elsewhere which caused the breakup. They might never have been married at all.
Why don't you try to get a marriage record from the county clerks office? With the names and approximate date of marriage they should be able to find it. You could also write to Lee County for an obituary but I don't know if that would help much. If it tells when he remarried it might help.
