Good afternoon everyone. My great grandfather immigrated from Germany in 1857 when he was 4. His name was Jacob Marquardt. Our family history says his parents left Germany because the state was becoming too militaristic, and after arriving in America they change the spelling of their name to Marquart, dropping the "d" so their name would be "less German". However, the point of my posting is to say I have a photocopy of the Marquardt family crest with some background of the roots of the name. I'm not at home presently, but will post more information later tonight regarding the crest. I do recal that the name has a meaning related to "Border Guard". My mother has done extensivew research of the Marquardt family, and the LDS site has a lot of information on the name Marquardt. Regards, Bill
