Hi, Karen. If Amanda Melviney is the daughter of this Alfred Maroney, then she is indeed the niece of Amanda Humphries. Amanda Humphries is my gr-gr-gr-grandmother. I have also been to her grave at Rose Hill Cemetery in Austell. You might also be interested in a message I left on this board recently about James Maroney and Seally Moseley. Some of us who are tracing Benjamin Maroney's line think they are Benjamin's parents. You may know that Amanda's Humphries relatives were associated with the New Manchester Mill during the Civil War. The mill was burned when Sherman's Army marched through Campbell County and the people who worked there and their families were sent north until the War was over. There is a book about this called "North Across the River" and Amanda is mentioned in it. The Friends of Sweetwater Creek State Park are sponsoring a commemoration of the 140th anniversary of the burning of the mill on July 9, 2004. Included in this event is a reunion of mill families. If you are interested in attending, you can contact that group. They have a website on line.
