Dear William, your message was a God-send. We have been trying for about 15 or 20 years to connect our Texas branch of the Maroney clan with Captain Philip Delancy Meroney. We were pretty confident that the relationship was there, but we could not make a connection from James "Dempsey" Maroney to Henry. We did not know about Philip. Let me provide you an update that with your help fills in the blanks.

Henry Maroney had a son, Philip. Philip had a son, James "Dempsey" Maroney, who you had little information on. James Dempsey was my Great Great Grandfather. He married Hannah E. McCurdy (b. January 23, 1842 in Villa Rica, Fulton Co., GA; d. Feb 14, 1928 in Lamar Co, Texas) in Albertville, Alabama. He died on Oct 13, 1921, in Lamar Co, Texas. Both Hannah and James Dempsey are buried in a beautiful, small country cemetery East of Paris, Texas (Red Oak Cemetery in the community of Blossum, Texas). The cemetery is fenced, has huge live oak and red oak trees and a white gazebo.

James and Hannah had twelve children.

Robert Henry was married to Wimuth or Mallie Belle "Belle" Davis (b.Apr 26, 1881, in Rock Run, Ala; d. Apr 28, 1966, in Wichita Falls, Wichita Co, Texas. They were married in Lewisville, Texas near Dallas.

I have lost count now, but as a child remember playing hide-and-go-seek with my cousins in Wichita Falls. There were 1l boy cousins before the first girl cousin was born. In all, I am sure that I have at least 57 first cousins, grand children of John Layfette and great great grandchildren of James Dempsey. I married Joyce Delane Johnson on Dec 21, 1966, and we have two sons, Jason Wayne and Judd Hoyt, and one 3-year old grandson, Tucker Wayne.....We have been doing our part here in Texas to keep the Maroney line going.

Thanks to your help and wonderful message, Tucker Wayne can prove that he is ten generations removed from Philip Delancy Meroney, and like his distant ancestor, Tucker is red headed.

With gratitude,

Larry Maroney
