Hi Tim
My MARLIN family were keen on George, William, John and Robert. They also seemed to marry a lot of women called Mary. We have an interesting family legend - the MARLIN families fled from Spain during the Spanish Inquisition, they were Spanish Jews. According to this legend the first MARLIN turned up in the court of Queen Elizabeth 1. I also found an interesting record that may be a beginning of the MARLIN name:

Name:William MARLIN1,2
Birth:       abt 1282       Of Oxton, Devon, England
Father:       Robertus Fitz Martin DE CAINES

1. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, "International Genealogical Index (R)," Copyright (c) 1980, 2000, data as of January 2000, Family History Library 35 N West Temple Street.
2. Family History Library 35 N West Temple Street. Film #: 448056, Page #: 0009.
Like you, I believe we are all connected in some way.
