First Hanging Bell County, KY
Am researching first legal hanging in Bell County, Kentucky, in 1893. Condemned was Robert Marler.
He was found guilty of shooting a Mrs. Bowen on the train at Bennet's Fork. He shot her accidently. He was attempting to kill a man named Long who owed Robert'sbrother George $9. He mistook the conductor for Long and fired at him; grazed his arm and hit Mrs. Bowen in the liver. Marler was tried and hanged in Pineville, KY. His brother George was sentenced to the State Penitentiary. Would like more information on this family for forthcoming historical novel. Reply to: [email protected]
