Tim, I have been unable to trace the Marlar family back to England with direct connection to any of the Marlar lines I have been working on.My Marlars first appear in Camden then Lancaster County SC in 1759. William Marlar, who served in the SC militia in 1759 and then went on to serve as a soldier in the Rev war seemss to be the first Marlar in my line.I've never found any record that links him to either arrival from England or to others already in America. The area in which he settled was, according to a history of SC, "settled by Virginians" and is, in fact, located on the Great Philadelphia Wagon Road - a primary North South route first used by the Indians. There are MANY records of Marlars who were brought to VA in the 1600s as indentured servants but I've never been able to link any Marlar line to any of them.
Please contact me directly, as I am curious about where you fit into the Marlar family.I know that Thomas Wesley Marlar (brother of my William E. Marlar) married Susan Wagoner about 1859 in Mulberry, Crawford County, AR and that I have found the Marlars and Wagoner/Wagners in close proximity in several places. Are you related through this connection?
