Benjamin Franklin Marlar, born in 1832 in Tennessee
was one of the first two settlers in Jerauld County.
He didn't seem to have stayed very long, maybe he just
homesteaded the land for later resale at a profit, or
maybe he just didn't understand his German or Danish,
or Swedish neighbors. Jerauld County was mostly
settled by immigrants with Nordic heritage.
Sarah's father was Benjamin Franklin Marlar, of
Tennessee. His family is shown as living in Butler,
Harrison, Missouri in the 1870 and 1880 US Federal
Census, and some of his family was in the 1900 Census,
still in Missouri.
Benjamin Franklin Marlar and his unmarried son Leander
were living in Madison, Greenwood County, KS in 1900,
and his son Edwin D. Marlar and family were living in
Greenwood in 1920 and 1930. Ed Marlar was originally
named "Elcana Delana Marlar", and was once known as
"Cain Marlar".
