Ken,
You make a very good point. WE all wrestle with documentation all the time and sometimes it is due to the preponderance of evidence that we use the information and hope later to be able to pull this all together.
If we use the census for our decisions then surely Landy Jr., nor Joel could be the sons of Esther Hunt, Green, Markwell.

This is my contention....She is living with Joel Markwell in 1850 in Fleming County . That is not enough proof to say she is his mother.
Landy Markwell married Elizabeth Fleming 31 August 1805. She died 1814 right?

Children I have for this union is:
Able E. b. ca. 1806
John Wesley b. 1808
James Fleming b. 1810
Mariah b. 1812
Anthony Huston b. 1814
Some say they think Elizabeth might have died in Child Birth?

Landy married Esther/Hester Hunt, Green, 4 March, 1817

If Landy Jr.was Landy and Elizabeth's when was he born.

Who has a copy of Landy Sr's will? I contend Esther had one son Landy Jr., who is mentioned in the will... and was pregnant with the other one and that is he wasn't mentioned in the will.

IN the 1820 Fleming Co. KY Census [bear in mind Esther Markwell and Thatcher Hiatt married that year]
Thatcher Hiatt was listed as 16-26
Esther was 26-45
there were 2-males under 10 I contend this was Landy and Joel.
There was also 1 female under 10 [this might be Mariah Markwell]?? with perhaps all the rest of the sons bound out or with other family members.

In 1830 We have the Thatcher Hiatt family this way:
Thatcher Hiatt age 20-30
Esther age 40-50
2-males 5-10 I contend this is William Thatcher Hiatt b. ca. 1822 and Josiah Hiatt b. ca. 1824.
2-males 10-15 I contend this is Landy and Joel Markwell.
1-female 15-20 Mariah?

1840 Census:
Esther is head of house.
2-males 15-20 Josiah and William T. Hiatt.
1-male 20-30 who I think is Landy because Joel married in 1838. Landy didn't marry Diana Logan until 8 Oct. 1840 this being after the census enumeration.

What have I missed??? I am glad to hear the other side of this....I am wrong a lot of times.
I want that piece of paper that says Joel and Landy Markwell are 1/2 brothers to Josiah and William T. Hiatt and I will claim them..LOL
I am anxiously awaiting the question?
Blessings!
