C. J. MARKOWSKI PIONEER RESIDENT DIES IN DETROIT
Casmir J. Markowski, aged 79 years, died suddenly Wednesday, April 29, in Detroit at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. J. Risteau, 5314 Cadillac Boulevard, with whom he had been making his home the past 5 years.Mr. Markowski's death was due to infirmities of age.
Mr. Markowski was born in Germany and when a young man came to the United States.He first located in Buffalo for 3 years and then came to Alpena, where he resided continously for about 40 years prior to going to Detroit, Mr. Markowski will be remembered by many as having owned and operated a grocery store at 201 Long Lake Avenue. Mrs. Markowski died ten years ago in Alpena on June 7, 1921.Paul Markowski, his son, was the first World Wasr Vetern of Alpena who had a military funeral here in July 1918.
Mr. Markowski is survived by three daughters, Mrs. A. J. Risteau and Mrs. John Klawekosky, both of Detroit, and Mrs, T. J. Shalla of Alpena; five sons, Frank, John and Anthony Markowski of Alpena; Julius Markowski of Jackson and Robert Markowski, Detroit; besides 38 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The body of Mr. Markowski will arrive in Alpena Friday afternoon and be taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. T. J. Shalla and Mr. Shalla, 217 Adams Street.Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Church.Rev. John E. Gatzke will officiate.Internment will be in the family lot at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Funeral sercices for Casimir J. Markowski, aged 79 years, were held this morning at 9 o'clock at St. Mary's Church with Rev. John E. Gatzke officiating.Internment was in Holy Cross Cemetery.Mr. Markowski's death occured in Detroit suddenly Wednesday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. J. Ristesu, 5314 Cadillac Blvd. with whom he had been residing the past 5 years.The body of Mr. Markowsi arrived in Alpena friday afternoonn and was taked to the home of his daughter, Mrs. t. J. Shalla, 217 Adams Street, where it remained until services were held this morning.Mr. Markowski is well known in Alpena and until a few years ago operated a grocery store on Long Lake Avenue.
