Hi Kevin

I would have thought that this is John (William) and his family in the 1901 Census:

Reference and place
<3900-30>: Lancs: Clayton Le Moors

Hugh MARKLAND: [b.c. 1857, Lancs Burscough] Labourer Canal
Mary MARKLAND: [b.c. 1858, Lancs Wigan]
John MARKLAND: [b.c. 1880, Lancs Wigan] Labourer Canal
Ellen MARKLAND: [b.c. 1881, Lancs Wigan] Cotton Weaver
Hugh MARKLAND: [b.c. 1888, Lancs Aspull]
Ann MARKLAND: [b.c. 1890, Lancs Mel In Wakefield]
Joseph MARKLAND: [b.c. 1898, Lancs Clayton Le Moors]

My own MARKLAND interests are in my uncle's family in the Bolton area but I do have some information on surrounding towns so will check if I have anything further

Best Wishes
Tony Owen
Bolton, Lancashire
