Alice Markham was my father's aunt. She lived in Pasadena, CA, and when I was about 10-12 years old, Alice told my dad that she would will her 2+ carat diamond ring to him if I would bring me to see her. My wife wears the ring today and we call it the Markham diamond. It was a trip I have always remenbered. We went by train from south Texas where we lived to Pasadena, traveling through New Mexico and Arazona and returned through Colorodo. Aunt Alice had a mountain behind her house which was amazing to me as I had never seen a mountian before.
